ELE 6652 - Mathematics Pedagogy 3: Geometry and Measurement 3 Semester Hour(s)
This course provides future educators with the foundational knowledge and pedagogical skills needed to teach geometry and measurement to K-6 grade students. Emphasizing the Standards for Mathematical Practice, the course covers key concepts such as shapes, spatial reasoning, and the properties and measurement of geometric figures. Students will learn to explain and model these principles, ensuring that they can create developmentally appropriate lessons that engage elementary learners in critical thinking and problem-solving. Through a combination of theoretical understanding and hands-on activities, participants will explore effective strategies for teaching geometry and measurement, preparing them to foster a strong mathematical foundation in their students. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to develop instructional practices that support young learners in mastering geometry and measurement concepts.
Prerequisite(s): ELE 6650 and ELE 6651 or ECE 6634 , or with the permission of the department chair or designee.
