ELE 6651 - Mathematics Pedagogy 2: Data Analysis, Statistics, and Probability 3 Semester Hour(s)
This course is designed to equip future educators with a comprehensive understanding of data analysis, probability, and statistics, tailored for teaching K-6 grade students. The course emphasizes the application of the Standards for Mathematical Practice, guiding participants to develop the skills necessary to explain and model essential principles in these areas. Through a blend of theoretical exploration and practical exercises, students will learn how to foster statistical reasoning and data literacy among elementary learners. Key topics include the collection, representation, and interpretation of data, understanding probability as a measure of uncertainty, and applying statistical methods to real-world situations. By the end of the course, participants will be proficient in creating engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons that encourage critical thinking and a deep understanding of data analysis, probability, and statistics in young learners.
Prerequisite(s): ELE 6650 or with the permission of the department chair or designee.
