The Sorrell Society of International Fellows

The Sorrell Society of International Fellows represents a strategic initiative undertaken by the Sorrell College of Business, aimed at identifying and nurturing the most academically gifted students to become distinguished global business leaders and conscientious global citizens. Membership will be selectively conferred to applicants upon admission to Troy University, contingent upon their academic performance and demonstrated potential for success.
Minimum acceptance into the program is a 26 on the ACT (or equivalent) or 3.5 or higher high school GPA. Students must maintain a 3.25 overall GPA and in their business courses to graduate as a SCOB International Fellow. The Cohort will be limited to 25 students. Applications will be made to the Sorrell College of Business and invitations will be sent by the Dean of The Sorrell College of Business.

Core Components of the Program
- Freshman Seminar: A foundational course that introduces students to the principles of global business and global citizenship.
- Short-Term Study Abroad: A program component that provides students with early international exposure through a short-term abroad experience during their freshman year.
- Cultural Immersion Trip: In their second semester, students will participate in a cultural immersion trip, which includes visits to significant cultural landmarks and International Businesses in the United States.
- Corporate Engagement: Students will have the opportunity to visit various international corporations within Alabama and the Southeastern United States, thereby gaining firsthand insights into multinational business operations.
- Capstone Project: Students will complete a special capstone project that will be specifically designed to showcase their Global Business experiences as well as their academic successes.
Curriculum Requirements
The Sorrell Society of International Fellows must complete the following requirements as part of their degree program: - BUS 1121 - International Fellows Seminar
- BUS 4450 - Global Leadership Experience
- A minimum of three hours of world languages offered by the Department of World Languages and Cultures in a language other than the student’s native language.
- Completion of either a semester-long study abroad experience OR two short-term study abroad experiences.
- Capstone Project: Students must complete a special project that will be specifically designed to showcase their Global Business experiences as well as their academic successes as part of a course in their chosen major.
