General Studies Program: Specialized Requirements


All students are required to complete the Troy University General Studies Program requirements. The major requires the selection of certain courses within the General Studies Program. For all other General Studies requirements, students may select from courses approved within the General Studies Program.  

Students should consult their education advisers concerning all certification requirements and with their academic discipline adviser for requirements in the major. Students not seeking Alabama teacher certification should consult with the specific content discipline for major requirements.

Education Major - Professional Studies (36 Hours)


Available secondary education disciplines are as follows:


  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • English/Language Arts
  • Comprehensive General Science
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Social Science

Comprehensive General Science Education (Teaching Field)


Specialized General Studies Requirements


Area IV


  • Any 1000-2000 level History Course 3 Credit Hour(s)
  • 1000-2000 level courses in Social Sciences: ECO, GEO, HIS, POL, and PSY or advisor approved course 3 Credit Hour(s)

Major Emphasis


  • Select 15 hours of upper-level American/Latin American courses or 15 hours of upper-level courses European/Asian/African

Minor Emphasis


  • Select an additional 12 hours of upper-level American/Latin American courses or 12 hours of upper-level European/Asian/African courses

Note


Minor Emphasis area of study must be different from Major Emphasis area.
