Students seeking Alabama teacher certification in choral or instrumental music should select the following courses AND the courses listed under either the choral or instrumental emphasis track below. Additionally, music education students should select education as a second major. Students should consult with their advisors concerning all certification requirements.*

General Studies Program: Specialized Requirements
All students are required to complete the Troy University General Studies Program requirements. The major requires the selection of certain courses within the General Studies Program. For all other General Studies requirements, students may select from courses approved within the General Studies Program. Area IV Requirements
- MUS 2240 - World Music Cultures 3 Credit Hour(s)
- Take any 1000-2000 level course with a Primary Focus on History 3 Credit Hour(s)
- Take any two 1000-2000 level courses with the following Social Sciences: Anthropology, Business, Criminal Justice, Education, Finance, Geography, History, Human Services, Hospitality, Sport, and Tourism Management, Leadership, Interdisciplinary Studies, Nutrition, Nursing, Political Science, Psychology, Religion, Social Work, Sociology, or other Social Science areas 6 Credit Hour(s)
Note: When selecting general studies courses in Area II and/or Area IV, you must complete a six-hour sequence in Literature or History.

*Successful completion of MUS 4499 Senior Recital (7 hours) MUS 4499 is the final course in the Applied Lesson sequence (2210-4428) Students need to pass 2 semester hours of MUS 2XXX Applied Lessons, 2 semester hours of MUS 3XXX Applied Lessons, and 3 semester hours of MUS 4XXX (The final semester of MUS 4XXX is taken as a co-requisite with Senior Recital) Minimum grade of “C” required and advancement will be given at jury examinations by faculty in each area (keyboard, voice, brass, woodwinds, strings, percussion, strings) Instrumental Emphasis Track *
