This course is an introduction to the field of professional counseling and its specialized practice areas. Students examine the history and philosophy of the profession, explore diverse counselor roles and functions, and gain insight into legislation, regulatory processes, and public policy. The curriculum highlights professional organizations, credentialing, licensure, accreditation, labor market trends, and legal/ethical standards, while emphasizing advocacy, self-care strategies, and the purpose of supervision for effective practice.
Prerequisite(s): Required first course.
